Rules and Details

• Car kits must be purchased from Friends of Franklin. The internet has all kinds of unapproved car kits so please purchase from FOF.

• If you intend to enter the SPEED COMPETITION:

  • Your car must have four wheels, and must use the wheels and axels (screws) from the car kit purchased from FOF.

  • Cars may not weigh more than 6 oz.

  • Cars may not be wider than 2 ¾ inches, longer than 7 ½ inches, or taller than 5 ½ inches

  • We will have a scale and measuring device at the drop-off site for you to check weight and dimensions.

  • Have the student’s name somewhere on the car (legibly please, usually on the underside)

• Once the car has been accepted by the Derby Crew no further alterations or repairs are allowed.

• There is an additional $10 fee to enter your car in the Pinewood Derby Speed Competition. Use the “Register” link below.

• Race cars must be registered by the THURSDAY before Race Day.

• If you intend to enter the STYLE COMPETITION:

  • There is no fee or registration required to enter the Best Style competition.

  • If you want your car posted online, you may use the registration form to upload a picture. Be sure to select the Style option for free!

  • Please have your car at the Derby for display no later than 1 PM.

  • Best Style judging will be done by a panel of parents and staff at the live event.

• Have fun and remember everyone is a volunteer!
